Cardiff Castle

During the Christmas holiday, we went to Cardiff Castle. The castle, which is located in the centre of the city, is regarded as one of the area's main tourist attractions. Visiting the castle is not an inexpensive event, but you do receive a lot for your money. When we arrived at the airport, I realised the next flight was in three hours, and I did not want to wait that long; also, the cab charge is nearly equivalent to the cost of the airline ticket. So I opted to travel by road because I could reach the castle in about three hours. I contacted company and reserved a cab; they said the driver is just around the block and would arrive shortly. In less than a minute, company dispatched a driver to the airport. I arranged for a cab from Heathrow Airport to my location. The driver greeted me and helped me load my baggage into the cab's boot; we were now on our way to the castle.

We arrived at the castle after travelling through thick traffic. The driver handed me my stuff and walked away.Cardiff Castle is a motte and bailey Norman castle, as well as a gothic revival Victorian imitation castle. There are also numerous additional attractions inside the complex, such as the air raid tunnels within the castle walls and the Welsh army museum, so there is enough to see and do. There is also a free audio tour with a route designed just for children. To make certain that I did not miss anything, I paid for the house tour. This leads you to the Victorian house's family rooms, but to be honest, I didn't see the sense in paying more for this experience.

With a ticket price of over £40 for a family of four, the house tour, in my opinion, should have been included in the admission fee. The trip lasted less than an hour, but the guide was informative. As one might expect, because the tour concentrated on the Bute's bedrooms, it mostly conveyed the Victorian tale of the castle.It was a pity that the mediaeval story of the castle was not conveyed at all. During the Norman and Plantagenet eras, the castle played an exciting role, even serving as a jail for the true King of England. Hugh Despenser, who had a role in one of the finest mediaeval romances of all time: the rise and fall of King Edward II, also possessed it.

Unfortunately, these legends of when the castle was a genuine castle were neglected and not shown to tourists during my visit, albeit some of them were included as part of the house's décor and artefacts. We had visited about a hundred castles throughout the nation by this point, and I must say that the visit to the 3rd Marquese's Victorian dream palace was one of the most unusual experiences we experienced. The partnership between the pious marquise and his famous architect is a colourful and spectacular experience, with each room in the mansion offering a unique perspective. And this is where I have to suggest you not skip the home tour, despite the extra cost: a visit to the nursery chamber and the garden at the top of the tower is worth it on its own.
